Glides
Different floor finishes require different glides.
Our standard finish on the base of the chair legs are nylon glides which protect the base of the chair leg and the floor at the same time. They usually last for many years. Please check them regularly – all glides can wear out or fall off and this can damage the floor.
Rough or uneven floors can damage the glides and the chairs themselves. Nylon glides are more suitable in these circumstances.
On some hard floors, the felt glides are quieter, softer and smoother than the nylon glides which can be noisy. However, the felt glides do wear more quickly and can need regular replacement. They do not slide easily on carpet or rugs and snagging on these can lead to damage to the chair.
Plastic glides are suitable for parquet, laminate, hard synthetic or carpet floor finishes.
Felt glides are suitable for parquet, laminate, linoleum or soft synthetic floor finishes.
Castors
Castors can be fitted to the base of the chair legs, particularly the front legs for practical or decorative purposes.

Castors for Desk Chairs
Our standard desk chair is fitted with black plastic castors for 360 degree moveability. We do not recommend the castors shown for the chairs for any desk chair. We also offer the option of an antique brass ball socket castor for the desk chair.
Cabots or Socks
There is also the option of a metal “cabot” at the base of the chair leg which is sprayed on in a range of metal options.
